Safari Art, Shark Moms, and the Science Behind Forest Bathing
Discover what I'm writing, where I'm going, and how we can work together.
It’s all too easy to become jaded when you write about travel for a living. Being on the road can grind you down with small, unimportant stuff like delays and lost luggage and airplane seats that might as well be cardboard. But after my latest whirlwind trip to the Maldives and Bhutan—with a stopover in Thailand that was just long enough to stuff myself with three servings of mango sticky rice—travel has never felt like more of a gift.
I met leaders in responsible ecotourism, like Jean-Michel Cousteau at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. I went scuba diving with pregnant tigers sharks on Fuvahmulah, where Maldivians are creating a locally-run scuba destination from scratch. I hiked through Bhutan’s lush, healthy forests—alive with birdsong thanks to the country’s remarkable conservation initiatives. We’re so lucky to be able to explore these places, learn from them, and share their stories.
As always, please be in touch with ideas, questions, or to just say hi. -Alexandra

I’m currently writing a feature for The Zoe Report about forest bathing and looking for experts and destinations to feature. Please be in touch if you rep a property or destination that is especially well-known for forest bathing and/or have an expert who can speak to the science behind it and why the trend has become so popular.
I recently started a new series of articles for Scuba Diving Magazine about the best resorts and liveaboards for divers. (Here’s the first story!)
I’m looking to pitch Food & Wine’s Food News vertical more. Please let me know if you have some thing that might be a fit.

Momos! If you go to Bhutan, you will probably eat a lot of these tasty dumplings. They’re commonly filled with meat (such as beef, pork, or yak), potato, or cheese and finely chopped cabbage. You can order them fried, steamed, or best of all, in jhol—a mildly spicy broth. The ones at Momo Corner in Paro blew my mind. They come with ezay—a Bhutanese chili pepper condiment that is served with absolutely everything—that is so brutally spicy I couldn’t eat it, while locals dumped it into their bowls. As my guide liked to say, “In Bhutan, chili is life.”
